The 5x60 scheme is all about getting secondary school pupils in Wales involved in physical activity, with the recommended figure for pupils coming in at 60 minutes, five times a week!

This is the 4th year Glyn Derw has been involved with 5x60 and the timetable is constantly being updated to give pupils fresh options to try and hopefully enjoy! Click on the timetable above...

Year 8 pupils are taking part in a new project called Connecting Classrooms in East Asia that is being run by the British Council. As part of the project Glyn Derw has linked up with An Duong Secondary School in Hanoi, Vietnam. The project will enable pupils to exchange information and ideas to help create today's Global Citizens for Tomorrow's World.

eco-schools-logo Pupils at Glyn Derw have decided to take environmental and global citizenship issues very seriously. A group of pupils have created an eco club called 'The Environmentalist' they are taking a lead role in role in decision making and participation in order to reduce the environmental impact of the school. In recognition of their work they have been awarded a bronze award by Keep Wales Tidy.

Glyn Derw High School is a Cardiff County Comprehensive Secondary School set on the edge of Trelai park and woodland in the southern part of Ely.

It serves the communities of Caerau and Ely. The school educates pupils in the compulsory years of 11-16 and has approximately 750 pupils on roll

GCSE Results 2009 - Simply The Best

Glyn Derw High School 'Class of 2009' have exceeded the staff's 'High Expectations' by achieving 38% A*-C grades at GCSE.

.
Deputy headteacher Mr Davies said: “We have achieved the 2nd best results in our history. This is due to the hard work and determination of staff and students. We are all absolutely delighted.”

Today the students were eagerly enrolling for places in the new 6th Form partnership between Glyn Derw and Michaelston Community College.

Around the World in 80 days "Around the World in 80 Schools"
Glyn Derw pupils taking part in Saturday club are involved in an exciting new project called "Around the World in 80 Schools" which connects the virtual and real world of schools and learners in the 21st Century.

80 schools around the World will be visited and hosted on a website giving learners of all ages a virtual and real voice of expression voicing the young learners concerns and interests in the world of today.
